About the project
Speaking In Faces, a landmark publication showcasing the VABC’s metal type, will hold print gathered in the last 18 months from the VABC’s vast holdings in traditional specimens. These have been gathered through our class work and “Slug Away Sunday” printing sessions.

But you probably heard it will also be interspersed with creative specimens undertaken by the VABC artists based on a few of the best-represented faces in our collection (by quantity and diversity of styles). Below is a selection of the unique artist’s specimens that utilize the intricacies and nuances of the font face; shape and design of individual letters, history, designer, etc… in ways that inspire and draw attention to the achievement of great typeface.

For the best look at the specimens, click on gallery below.

Thanks to the Virginia Commission for the Arts for supporting the work of these artists.
