Speaking in Faces: Virginia’s Typographical Treasures Published

About the project
Speaking In Faces, a landmark publication showcasing the VABC’s metal type, will hold print gathered in the last 18 months from the VABC’s vast holdings in traditional specimens. These have been gathered through our class work and “Slug Away Sunday” printing sessions.

But you probably heard it will also be interspersed with creative specimens undertaken by the VABC artists based on a few of the best-represented faces in our collection (by quantity and diversity of styles). Below is a selection of the unique artist’s specimens that utilize the intricacies and nuances of the font face; shape and design of individual letters, history, designer, etc… in ways that inspire and draw attention to the achievement of great typeface.

For the best look at the specimens, click on gallery below.

Thanks to the Virginia Commission for the Arts for supporting the work of these artists.

My husband and I attended the Festival of the Book event yesterday on Speaking in Faces, which was terrific! I wanted to ask when the raffle drawing will take place – I’m hoping it hasn’t taken place yet, as that would likely mean that I haven’t won 🙂

Also, I purchased a raffle ticket that included the price of the facsimile book that you intend to produce – will you email me when that book is completed? Also, I don’t have a receipt other than the raffle ticket for that, and I wanted to make sure that there’s nothing else I need do. If you could let me know how that will proceed, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks very much, and congratulations on the production of such a wonderful book!

    Best regards,
