In this process-based 4-session course, we will explore a range of simple folded and bound structures as we experiment with written and visual content, including letterpress printing with wood type.
Throughout, we will keep a steady eye on the relationship between content and form as each participant builds a multi-faceted folded book structure and paper enclosure.
Each book will be unique to its maker. This is not a writing course, but we will be engaging in several writing prompts and exercises.
Participants will need to bring writing paper (notebooks), pencils, pens, aprons, gloves (optional), any image-making materials they wish such as ink, paint, brushes, stencil papers/Mylar, upcycled papers, maps, Gelli plates, brayers & inks, etc.
Material provided: paper for all models, final book and enclosure, soft linoleum block, carving tools & a limited number of brayers, bone folders, glue, thread, needles, some block inks, some paints.
