Day One: Paste and Decorative Art Papers with Ginna Cullen
Paste papers are fun and decorative art papers used for a variety of paper crafts including bookbinding, gift wrapping, card making, collage, and more!  Made with a technique of surface painting with an acrylic paste mixture, paste papers have multi-dimensionality – a 3-D effect on a 2-D piece of paper.  Using a variety of tools and papers (Tyvek, slick surface, tracing, drawing, and more – feel free to bring paper of your own to try!),  participants will experiment with single and multiple layers of decoration and conclude the day with 15 – 20 individual sheets of decorative papers.  These papers form the “text” of the mini-books made in the next day’s Stiff Leaf Binding class.

Day Two:  Stiff Leaf Binding with Jane Freeman
Stiff leaf binding is a rigid no-sew bookbinding method in which folded sheets of paper are glued back-to-back to form a satisfyingly solid little book. Think children’s board books!  This binding is ideal for artist book projects as each sheet of paper is a complete, seamless two-page spread with no stitching breaking up the page gutter.  Participants will use paste papers from the previous day’s workshop to complete two stiff leaf binding books with linen and paper covers.  Participants will also experiment with cover decoration.
