Thursday, March 21, 5-6:30 PM
Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection

Virginia Center for the Book members and friends are invited to this private gallery talk with Basil Hall.
Basil will focus on the printmaking techniques by Australian indigenous artists as showcased in the Kluge-Ruhe’s Shifting Ground  exhibit.

Shifting Ground, on exhibition March 9, 2024 – March 2, 2025 is drawn from a recent gift of 1,316 studio workshop proofs by Basil Hall Editions to Kluge-Ruhe. This exhibition was curated by Jessyca Hutchens, the inaugural First Nations Curatorial Fellow at Kluge-Ruhe.

Basil Hall has been working as a collaborating printer with Aboriginal artists since 1983. For 16 of these years, he was based in Darwin where he and a group of experienced printmakers made prints with many hundreds of artists from over 55 Art Centers in Australia. In 2001, Hall established the atelier Basil Hall Editions (BHE) to facilitate workshops in remote Indigenous communities across Australia and to work with many renowned independent artists.
