Democracy and the Informed Citizen

We are working with public libraries and other partner organizations across the Commonwealth to develop and support public programming that explores issues related to the critical role of local journalism in supporting an informed citizenry. Working within the theme of “Who Will Write the Story? The Critical Role of Local Journalism,” select programs will take place in communities across Virginia between September 2020 and May 2022, with funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of the Democracy and the Informed Citizen national initiative.

Riccio Residency

The Riccio Residency honors the memory of artist and Book Arts co-founder Frank Riccio, recognizing his legacy as a talented practitioner and educator among Virginia’s creative community and building upon his loyal and generous support for the work of book artists. Through the Riccio Residency, the Center hosts book artists, printmakers, and illustrators and provides funding and other support to partner organizations in order to create a collaborative community project.
